Jameston's Jargon

Oh my, this boy has been up to A LOT here lately! I've really enjoyed my two months of maternity leave to be able to stay at home exclusively with him and Blake. Days are usually pretty chaotic (man, it's the hardest job for sure) but oh-so rewarding! And I feel like we've turned the corner with him and his terrible-two/big-brother-wanting-attention issues. Phew!

Here is a taste of what he's saying (at least what this sleep-deprived momma can think of):

The SWEETEST things he's saying as of late revolve around baby brother. He's mimicking my motherese (intonation and all) and will say what I normally say to console Blake or to get him to smile (in the highest pitch imaginable for a little boy!) such as, "Where's that smile/Let me see that smile, Blake." It brings joy to my heart (and I sometimes have to secretlylaugh at his voice)!

He's saying big words and making hilarious substitutions. He calls his pliers "plizers," TV the "TD," and thunder "funder." too cute to correct!

He's also saying grown-up phrases, and I've realized things I must say a lot because he says them. "Well, actually..." "We can (insert name of chore or something he doesn't want to do like pick up toys or brush his teeth) in five minutes." And he ends his questions with "No?" The other day, I was in the kitchen and asked him while he was in his playroom, "What are you up to in there?" His response, "Just nothing." hmmmm...

The boy is OBSESSED with music and has a great ear for it (we've been without TV for two weeks, and he would watch a music DVD over one of his movies any day!). He can tell you when he hears the guitar, fiddle, drums, horn or saxophone (he mixes those up), harmonica, piano, and banjo play in a song. AND he gives his best action shot of how you play that instrument. It makes car rides very entertaining and more bearable :-)

He's also got quite the imagination and will be happy to tell you a story (a lot of them revolve around David and Goliath and Charlie the Ranch Dog, and all of his made-up animals are named "Fred"). This past weekend his Granny was starting a story, and he took over for her. By the end of it he was swinging from the ceiling fan with some monkeys! Gives you a taste of his activity level as well :-)

Instead of "some more" (for food, snack, juice, dancing to music, etc.) he will say "a little bit of some more." And if we are cracking up at something, he will call either Brett or me a "Silly Willie." love it!

We have learned that they do hear all we say, good and bad: For the good examples, we were with Brett's family this past weekend, and he kept calling some of the younger kids, "Sweetie" because he heard me saying it :-) and he told Brett tonight, "I'm so proud of you, you're such a hard worker." The bad example, he was frustrated with his toolbox not closing and I overheard him say, "Good gummit!" I'm pleading the fifth on that one, because "Dadd gummit" is a Brett-ism!

Two things are for sure: there's never a dull moment, and we are usually pretty tired at the end of the day :-)
