Two weeks with Sweet Elise

I better get this on the blog before she turns three weeks old (tomorrow)! Poor third child...here it goes, get ready for a long one (I've not been shy with taking pictures :-)

At her check up, baby girl is almost 9 lbs and is 21 inches long

Her first day in the hospital, Elise made her momma proud and passed the newborn hearing screening on the first attempt (a lot of C-section babies do not pass first time because they didn't come through birth canal to get all the gunk out of their ears). They let me hold her during the test, things sure have changed!
Our first attempt at a family of five picture...chaos, ha!

We found out soon after Elise was born that she was born tongue-tied (all four of my and my siblings were). So the pediatrician clipped it the next morning, which improved her nursings immediately!
That afternoon we got a picture with all three of our precious kiddos! Be still my heart! The boys wore their Big Brother shirts to school, where everyone was curious as to whether they had a brother or sister...seriously, their teachers called me the day of!
We had family and friends contribute to her wardrobe collection right away! Girls clothes are tooooo cute, I'm in trouble!
Blake has been such a GREAT big brother!! He is so sweet and cute with her (and I was worried he would be a tough one)! He always say, "I hold baby" and sings "Baby, baby oh so sweet." My cup runneth over!
Jameston adores his little sis as well, although he's had a tougher time adjusting...
Thursday morning Brett and the boys came up for a visit (Brett worked while the boys watched Curious George in bed with me and while little sister slept)! Our new normal :-)
Waving hi and saying, "Mom, get out of these gender-neutral clothes that you packed!" :-)
On the home front, I sure missed these guys while I was in the hospital for three days!

Sister/Brother comparison: Elise on left, Blake top right and JW bottom right. I think they're related!

After three days in the hospital, we headed home! Little Miss was awake the entire trip to the car and home :-)
Big brothers had a great reception for us once we arrived home. So sweet!
Her fierce protectors! She's in great hands and is one lucky girl!!
Catching some zzz's (she prefers to sleep over eating, unlike her brothers did :-)
Up at night! Sweet thing had her days/nights reversed in the beginning...could've predicted, as she was always doing acrobatics in my tummy all hours of the night in utero!
Brett and Elise share a birthday month! The day before she was born, I asked Brett what he was thinking. He told me, "the accountant in me would love another son, but the father in me would really love to have a daughter." Precious!
First check up with our pediatrician at 6 days old!
She had gained 2 ounces a day since leaving the hospital!
Big brothers looking out and enjoying some awake time with their little sis!
Normal behavior, right? Blake playing the baby and Jameston the daddy, ha!
Caught her smiling in her sleep! What do they dream about?
Cousins Riley, Ruby and Claire came for a visit!
Elise, the thinker :-) So pensive in Granny's lap one morning!
Love this one! She favors Jameston a lot, but I think she looks a lot like Blake at times, especially in this photo
We loved having Granny here for 10 days after she was born! could not have done it without her!!
My first day at home with all three...we survived!
My version of "Let it Go," hence the mess in the background. But what I am amazed at is what Elise can sleep through!
Our St. Patrick's day attire :-)
You can't pinch me, I'm wearing my green!
We are smitten with our newest addition! I think we'll keep her ;-) Big brothers are so sweet with her, just wish they'd be sweet with each other!

Two-weeks-old and four-and-a-half!

Last Tuesday Elise turned two weeks old!
And big brother turned 4 1/2! He's a sweet brother (just a little competitive with Blake on who gets to hold her longer :-)

He's been the toughest of all three kiddos since the littlest's arrival, so he enjoyed all the extra attention :-) We had cupcakes to celebrate and gave him a scooter (a gift I held back from Christmas just for this day). Brett and Elise have birthdays in March, and Blake's and mine are in April...so I tried to make him feel special with all the changes that have taken place!

Elise's birth day video

I used the app Flipagram to make a video about Elise's arrival. They only do 30-second clips, so it's short and sweet!

Little SISTER is here!

Tuesday was a big day for our family! I know the title gives it away, but I want to tell her birth story here :-)

Our last family of four picture:
39 weeks!
Brett and I arrived at the hospital around 10 for the noon procedure. The night before I did not sleep well at all...anxious for one, but the baby had seriously felt like he or she had been doing gymnastics for several hours and it felt like the baby was trying to break my water!

I would know why soon enough...but I was worried we weren't going to make it to noon!
Both doctors, the nurses, and anesthesiologist were awesome! I was so anxious (and tired) so it was a surreal, out of body experience. It seemed to have taken forever, but only 22 minutes, for them to deliver the baby...and for them to tell us if we had a son or daughter.

With the OR sheet in front of me, I listened to the play by play. Brett stayed with me most of the time (he said he didn't want to see my insides, and he wanted Dr. Merideth to spill the beans so we could be together at that moment).
I heard her say, "Baby has a big head." Right then I thought my it's-a-girl feeling had been wrong.
I felt them get the baby out, she then said, "it's a....." I know at that time she turned the baby over to check out the gender, and then completed the sentence, "GIRL!"
The entire OR erupted (they knew our story...two boys at home, this would be our last baby, and that we didn't know gender). They we're excited because they said they don't get to experience that too often. So fun!! It was one if the best moments of my life!
Elise Faye was born at 12:22 p.m!
They then brought her around to see me, I could not get over how much she looked like her brothers. And her cry, so sweet (and girly)! You never ever forget meeting your child for the first time. Amazing!
They then cleaned her up, weighed her and did some quick tests while they finished up with me. Brett asked for another thumbs up picture. So happy to have her here safely!
She weighed 8 lbs., 10 oz., and measured 19 inches (a shorty compared to her brothers :-)
The umbilical cord had been wrapped around her neck TWO times, something that would have really affected delivery if we had gone into labor on our own (which I had done with Jakeston and Blake). God was watching over us!
I have a picture of Blake at this point, and they look related that's for sure!
After a couple of minutes, they handed her over to Brett since they were still working on me.

Proud parents!!
Since I couldn't nurse right away, they gave her to Brett...they had some great bonding time. He's already wrapped around her tiny finger!

She was crying some, Brett brought her over to me. I kissed her cheek and started whispering to her
And she settled down. So in love!
She has the longest fingers and toes, like Jameston did when he was born
They were almost done with my procedures, so Brett was able to let her suck on his index finger to tie her over until I could feed her.
After about 20 minutes of further operation, they whisked us off to our room
And Brett then brought the boys in (alongwith my our parents) to find out they now have a little sister! Jw was concerned about mommy because I had been throwing up some :-(
To have them in there to find out (and some of our closest family, too), gosh...those were the sweetest moments I hope to never forget!
Then everyone left was I could feed her for the first time
The nurse determined that her tongue was "tied," which inhibited our first day of feedings. But the pediatrician clipped it Wednesday morning and we haven't looked back!
Blake and Elise bonding for the first time. Heart melt.
He's been so good with her!
The first of many bows!
They bathed her in our room. JW sure was curious!
He was so excited to get to hold her! This was when she was less than two hours old. So sweet!
He's going to be such a great big brother to her! Love this pic:
Since it was mid afternoon, Blake was up for a nap as well :-)

That's that! What a day!!!

More to come (and lots of pictures) about our first couple of days :-)
