Blake's birthday festivities

Blake-a-roo turned TWO in late April, and we had a party for him the following Saturday
The theme was "Choo-Choo, Blake is 2!"
Home-made cupcakes (with store bought icing :-)
The guests had fun outdoors, since the weather was nice, eating hotdogs,
and playing in the sandbox

The kiddos sported their monogrammed shirts from my dad and stepmom for the festivities!
(and Jameston sported his train conductor bandana (we had hats, too)
The guest of honor and Pops!
Cousin Alli had fun snuggling Elise!
Aunt Lynnlee came into town for the party!
Pops and Miss Elise!
Cousins Josie and Aspen had fun, I hope!
JW and Uncle Scott showing their "Guns Up" since Jameston was sporting a super-hero mask to look like the Masked Rider :-)
Party decor (with a newborn, it was very low-key!)
I added a banner to our collage of birthday banners
Family of five picture at the end of the party = CHAOS, haha!
The birthday boy opened his gifts on the patio
With Big Bro's help of course ;-)
He loves any kind of tool or weapon...all boy! Can you tell he has a big brother?
Dark picture, but Daddy with Blake and Elise on the porch
And we enjoyed having leftover cupcakes for awhile!

We had a blast celebrating our Blake Everett turning 2!

Elise's nursery!

I finally got my act together enough to take pictures (albeit with my phone) of little E's rooms :-) It only took about 10 weeks, ha! She started napping in there at week three and sleeping in there at night at four-weeks-old. Of course, I think my dSLR camera would do the colors more justice, but here is a peek:

We kept the blue wall the same from when it was Blake's room. Furniture is all the same from both boys' room as well. I did not go with a bed-in-a-bag theme like I had done with the boys, so it is very hodgepodge, but I think it works!
I got the bumper from Pottery Barn (clearance!), the mobile from the sweet Sip N See hostesses, and the monogrammed pillow from my dad and stepmom. We have three pillows for her room, I'm a bit obsessed! She has a new polk-a-dot crib sheet, but little Missy had a blowout that morning, so the green sheet it was for the pictures :-)

I painted the E above her bed, and just need to hang a painted frame around it now. I also made the triangle-cutout banner from fabric, and I plan to make some headbands out of the leftover (because I love the colors!). For the changing table/dresser, I just changed out the knobs. The clothes hamper was also the boys, but I painted it grey from the natural wood color it was and dyed the hamper from green to pink! Just needs something I haven't found yet below the banner
The theme is birds, so here are a couple of knick-knacks. The Live Well, Laugh Often, and Love Much plaque may be my favorite (it was, after all, my senior quote in high school!)
I plan on painting the lamp table but will be keeping the shade. Love the chevron bird cage/door hanger on the closet, which is hard to see in this photo
The media table that has stood as our bookcase and toy chest for three + years now, with a hand-made blanket on top, along with the frame from her great-grandmother and dried roses from our church when we were still at the hospital

The print that started it all! I bought this and another one at World Market back in February (and kept the receipts) just in case we had a girl. Glad my suspicions were correct :-) I love the colors!
My favorite thing in the room is this bird cage with clothespins. I think it is supposed to be a picture holder, but I am using it as her headband hanger
If we had a girl first, we would have bought white nursery furniture. I hope I've lightened it up enough with the color palette. And if we had a bigger budget and longer time frame, I probably would've given it more thought. But for the price and timeline, I love love our baby girl's room!

Blake Everett is 2!

Our sweet middle child turned TWO on April 25th! The past two years have flown by, that's fore sure!
It seems like just yesterday I was holding him in the hospital after he was born!
He is no longer our little baby with a big cry. He is now our "big boy," as he will often tell us, with a BIG personality to match!

Here is is at 1, this time last year:
And just this last week. This boy sure is a hoot!
"Blakey," as we call him, weighs 36 pounds and is 37 inches tall (both > 99th%) and he wears 3T clothes, size 8 1/2 shoe, and size 6 diaper. Daddy has been known to dress him on accident in some of Jameston's clothes (and they fit!) now since they share a room (and dresser :-) At his 2 year check up, his eyes checked out great! We are thrilled to hear that, because big bro is headed to ophthalmologist this summer...
Things he says these days (maybe I'll do a separate post? Maybe...) that I want to jot down:
  • "I do it" (hear that too many times in a day to count!) and it presents itself in many ways: I read it, I fix it...you get the point! And "I did it!"
  • He asks, "Where baby go?" when Elise is napping, and then, "I want hold her." TOOOO CUTE!
  • He calls everything "that thing" in a southern way ("thang")
  • And he says, "You a silly willy," which is a copying of me
  • Blake says words that start with "L" with a "Y", like "I yuv you," "I yike it," etc.
  • To get our attention or if he doesn't like the way something is going, he will say "Hey!" (and I tell him "hay is for horses")
  • I hear, "I need you," "I want you," more times than I can count.
  • "Aw, man" and "I need to tell you something," in his jibberish, which are both copies of big bro
  • Blake will exclaim "My daddy here!" when he hears the garage door opening...best words ever some nights! :-)
  • He will say "Happened?" with a question look on his face...so cute.
  • He is very considerate and has added "no thank you," and "you're welcome" to his "please/thank you" repertoire
We are in the throes of the "terrible two's" y'all...temper tantrums over anything, telling us "no," being stubborn, you name it. We joke he has multiple personalities, and it is hard to know which one he will display each hour ;-)
But he changes his tune quickly with discipline (time outs work for him) and he wants to hug it out afterwards! This boy can turn on the water works (talking big ole crocodile tears) in an instant! Such a fun age :-)
As far as sleeping, he and big bro now share a room since little sis joined us. And he naps and sleeps on the bottom bunk bed with no trouble. He does talk in his sleep and fall out of the bed some, so that makes for some interesting nights! He loves to sleep with his Digger the dog, books and his Lamby (a lamb lovey)! He usually sleeps 10-12 hours at night and takes a 1 1/2 to 2 hours nap after lunch.
Food-wise, he has become a pickier eater (hard to believe by his weight, I know). He won't eat meat very well, unless it is hotdogs or chicken with a lot of cream or cheese. He eats a lot of dairy, and most fruits and veggies. But protein via meat has been a battle. And he will not eat grapes. Crazy boy! Other than that, he eats pretty well, can't ya tell? :-)

At this age, Blake's interests are:
  • Anything big bro is doing!
  • Cars (little and big)
  • Stickers (if we need him to sit still for awhile, that's our go-to activity)
  • BOOKS! He just may be an avid book-lover like JW
  • Water! Anywhere, he loves it!
  • TOOLS! It must be a boy thing, because big brother and all boys I know are obsessed with them at this age

  • Music: this boy can groove and shake it! He LOVE, love, loves musical instruments (prob bc Jameston does, too), and he has the ca-utest dance moves!
  • Coloring (more like making a mess) in his coloring books
  • Being OUTDOORS! He could live outside.
  • Blake likes to click pens. He will be one of those classmates in school :-)
  • Cars, balls, legos...you know, boys stuff!

At this age, I want to remember the following about Blake:
  • He is, hands down (I know I am partial), the sweeeeeetest big brother to Elise! He always asks to hold her or kiss/hug her. I seriously hear, "I hold Baby 'Lise?" 30 times a day! And he talks to her in the most loving way. "I yuv you baby Lise." Heart melts. I absolutely adore how much he loves her. I hope it lasts forever!!
  • He is so tough. Really, he is. He will walk into the corner of the wall (left two feet like me I guess :-) and keep on going. Or get knocked down by big brother (one area I am trying to let them figure out on their on instead of my constant hovering). And he will brush right off and get back to it!
  • Teethbrushing is a daily battle with him. Seriously, you would think he would recognize that we have to brush every day, twice a day, but it is a struggle. One that we absolutely dread :-)
  • He has 18 teeth, with his top molars already in (he has been a drooler for some time now!) and the bottom molars on their way in.
  • Blake is our hoarder. If there are multiples of an item (books, stuffed animals, tools, etc.) he wants to bring and carry them all. Everywhere (which causes some of his temper tantrums when we can't pack a suitcase with stuff)!
  • He's kinda indecisive at times, which I think is another part of this age. You can often hear Jameston say, "Blake, you don't know what you want do you?" Wonder where he hears that?! :-)
  • He loves to "sing" the ABC's, "Twinkle Twinkly Little Star," "Jesus Loves Me," "Baby Baby Oh So Sweet," and a CD of silly songs we have in the car
  • He can count to 10 with some prompting and often gets the numbers outta order :-)
This boy still loves the water! Baths, outside sprinkler, you name it! It shall be a fun summer :-)
We attempted potty-training in February, when he seemed interested. He will go on the potty (both 1 and 2), but only if we ask him. He doesn't have the "telling us when he needs to go" part down yet. But he is dry throughout the day, some days, until he goes. So, we will see if we shall tackle this again soon.

And potty training isn't complete without golf club and superhero cape, right?
He has the cutest dimple/scar on his right cheek (another post on how he got it). And the best laugh! And he thinks kisses fix boo-boos! And when he gives me kisses, he wants to kiss me on both cheeks like the French do :-) LOVE THIS BOY and his antics!
Blake is such a joy! He makes everyone around him smile, because he is the toughest softie around :-) He is his big brother's shadow and his little sister's biggest fan.
We love you Blake-a-roo!
