We have a kindergartner!

Welp, we blinked and now he's almost 6 and has started grade school. Cue all the feelings!

I just cannot handle this picture, which they took at Meet the Teacher night...he still had shaggy hair, which we cut the following weekend.
J has Ms. Hays this year! And his own locker!! The other two had fun checking out his new classroom :-)
For the first day of school, Jameston actually cared about what he wore! He's never really been opinionated on this subject, but NOT for the first day :-) So, superheroes t-shirt it was! And a big boy carrying his own backpack and new TMNT lunchbox :-)
We wrote his back-to-school chalkboard and he wanted to write his name and the date...getting big!
Mommy and Daddy had a harder time than he did that morning...Brett's mom was staying with us to keep the younger two, whose preschool was still out for summer. Mommy also had a big day that day with my first balance test in quite some time...so I was all sorts of nerves!
Off he goes! We live close enough to walk him each morning!!
His desk! They have exercise balls with feet as chairs (for children with sensory/motor issues) and he LOVES them, obviously ;-)
That afternoon of the first day, I took my oldest on a special trip to Braum's after his first day of school. I think he kinda liked all the extra attention that day, hahaha.
The drop-off and pick-up brigade. The hardest adjustment has been on the other two...J pops right up and outta bed in the mornings and comes home excited from the day and ready to do his homework, Meanwhile, the other two are not enjoying getting woken up earlier in the morning and from naps. We will all adjust!
And sometimes Hobo joins us...I am sure we are a sight to see!
So proud of our BIG boy, who said when we hopped into the car after his first day to go get ice cream, "My first day was incredible." Cue all the feelings!

Hobo!

As of  November, our newest family member is Hobo, a 4-year-old black lab we adopted through DFW Pup Patrol!
We were not planning on getting another dog until this coming Fall; but how could we say "no" to this guy?
He is such a great fit for our family because he is waaaaay laid back (almost too laid back, haha :-) Which a dog would need to be with the amount of noise going on in our household!
Elise loves him and lovingly calls all dogs, "Hobo." :-) I think he learned to love us, slowly but surely!
We love our sixth family member, Hobo Baggins!

Blake Everett is 3!!

Our sweet Blake-a-roo turned 3 in April! What a character and absolute JOY this boy is!!
Blake can make anyone smile and laugh, even if he doesn't mean to. He will often talk in nonsense sentences to get a laugh out of whoever is listening. Such a ham!
our little ham, always smiling and cracking us up!

Development:
  • Talks full sentences with great grammar
  • Speech: fronting (cup to tup, get to dit, color to tolor)
  • Counts past 20 with prompting, knows abc's but is goofy when singing/saying and gets easily sidetracked, oy vey.
  • He likes to hear and tell stories, they are quite funny and most of the time random
  • he can recognize some numbers and uppercase letters and knows time and relational concepts (yesterday, last week, middle/end, tomorrow)
  • Need to work on letter recognition this summer
  • Very active, energetic, and coordinated (rides his bike very well), but goes to fast and can be a klutz
  • Has great dexterity, can button up buttons and open things that his big brother cannot
  • Dresses himself, potties by himself ('I need privacy, Mommy." But I need to check your work, Blake :-), brushes teeth himself
  • Potty trained at the end of last year (phew!)
  • Sleeps well at night, can make it through without wetting the bed, but he wears a pull up just in case
  • He's happy in the morning when he wakes up, not so in the afternoon after naps
  • Can skip his nap and acts fine

Eating: he is not picky (except with grapes) but he is the lollygaggy-est eater. He wants to eat and talk. We are all usually finished and he has barely started :-)
He is very independent: He often says "I do it myself!" I promote this, but it sometimes slows us down :-)

Blake-isms:
Crosses his arms to huff
Has think hair, helmet head like Brett :=)
Clutz

loudest shriek ever, since birth (the nurses commented when he was born that he had the loudest cry they've ever heard. I believe it.)

Scars on right eye and cheek
complains of knees hurting occasionally, doctor has chocked it up to growing

He will nap/sleep on the floor (crazy kid) and loooves to nap in Bubba's top bunk bed when J isn't in their room
Likes his sheets to be put all the way over him or me to lift them up and have them fall down, what we call a "waterfall"

He is a Daddy's boy in the truest sense. I love witnessing it, so sweet!

But he can be a Momma's boy, too, wanting me to hold him when he's hurt, or wanting to sit by me. He is funny in that he wants to give me hugs all the time but holds out on kisses, or what he says, "Only hugs. No tisses." Haha!

He looks up to and wants to be Jameston's shadow. Always nipping at his heels! This is great in that they are close, but with my oldest being a perfectionist, it can cause some spats (and long days of timeouts). They fight and make up quickly,

Seems like such a big boy, full on conversations about everything!

Such a great big brother to Elise, so protective, but also gets bothered by her...we're working on that!
Loves music and instruments!

outdoors and water! He is fearless in the pool

Most of the time is a good listener and helper (cleans mess and puts away plate/trash/toys)

He's gone without a nap probably ten days now and he does OKAY without it...we'll see where this goes once JW starts kindergarten and is not home (and Blake knows he's awake resting)

Two left feet, like his momma. He is more coordinated than most kids, but he is all over the place and sometimes his feet don't seem to get the memo. He is tough, though, and gets right back up!

TV/Movies: anything with superheroes, TMNT, Daniel Tiger
Music: Loves music, instruments, being loud and dancing!
Sports: Soccer, bike riding
Book: Berenstain Bears, superhero books *used to be his potty training book!
Food: hamburgers, breads and chips (he is my son), chocolate milk, sweets (again, my son), loves melon, berries & raw bell peppers, and hot dogs are his favorite!
Favorites: TMNT! Wild Kratts, Doc McStuffins bc he wants to be a doctor or a worker

We are so thankful and blessed by our middle child! He continues to help us grow as parents, keeps us laughing every day, and we cannot wait to witness what God has in store for our Blake Everett!

Blake's 3rd birthday party!

Back in April, our Blake Everett turned 3! I'm making it a rd birthday tradition to take my kids to their first movie with mommy on their 3rd birthday :-) Jameston took this picture to document:

We took Elise to my sister's in Lewisville and went to Grapevine Mills to see "Home." And the boys enjoyed the Legoland gift shop afterwards. Maybe we'll attempt the full Legoland on another trip!
My birthday was five days earlier...and he napped on me that day. Best birthday present  and one I will cherish forever!
The morning of his birthday, we took this. Love love love his enthusiasm :-)
On his actual birthday day, a Saturday, we had a party with family and a few friends for him..Mickey Mouse themed!

And my best friend and her son even joined in on the fun!
This boy, that smiles!
He really enjoyed his cupcakes and his Mike the Knight costume!
