Blakester is a year-and-a-half!

Poor second child...it is almost two weeks late, but here is Blake's 18-month-post. Feel free to skip or skim, because it's a long post (you've been warned)!

We will have official stats next week, but Blake weighed in at about 33 pounds at a sick visit three weeks ago. He's tall, too! Maybe a future QB? He loves to be outside and
RUN everywhere these days! He is also climbing onto things within reach.
Gives me a heart attack every time!
He has 11 teeth with 4 more making their way in. His bottom left lateral is finally making an appearance! But he's been biting my shoulder and his brother a lot over the last week because of all the new teeth :-(
These days, our Blake is Mr. Independent. He wants to all things all by himself, including eat and brush  his teeth.  He also gets up on his step stool to wash his hands, and he is super obsessed with soap and lotion dispensers (which he also calls "soap") lately! At least he's hygienic after the mess he makes :-)
Believe it or not, Blake has become more of a picky eater these days.

He loves anything with carbs (breads, crackers, noodles, etc.), but getting him to eat meat is tricky. He will eat eggs and cheese, and the boy can put down some yogurt. Thankfully, he will eat some fruits (faves are pears, peaches and avocados) and veggies (corn, small carrots) and any kind of beans. Oh, and he is a seasoned "dipper" these days. Hey, if it gets him to eat more of his food, I'm fine with it! Unfortunately he has the preponderance to keep sucking on the small candy he's tried, like M&M's. Talk about messy!

Things I want to remember about Blake at this age are:

  • He loves to dance (it's more of a march), clap, give high fives and "knuckles" to anyone who will do so along with him!
  • He will fold his hands to pray when we are, he blows kisses to anyone who asks, and he gives the sweetest (and slobberiest) kisses and best bear hugs!
  • Blake is OBSESSED with buttons and light-switches. Oh, and he loves to knock on doors and say 'knock knock.' He would proceed to do so many times if he can! He also loves to play with cars and will look for and say "plane" when we are outside and a "bus" when we are driving.
He is getting more intuitive by the minute and amazes us daily on what he is learning, thanks to a great big brother as a teacher, too! He says so many words and even some two-word combinations now. New favorites he says are: "clean up, let's go, we're home, and all gone/done now." His dad's favorite? "Touchdown!" which is says, as with the rest of these words, in his own way :-)

The other day we were at a friend's house and he found a toy cell phone, picked it up and pointed at us and said, "Cheese." Love seeing their imaginations at work! And I swear he said, "I dunno" the other day!

He loves to "sing" and play instruments, especially the "air drums" in the car! He has a voice and is loud, can ya tell? :-)
Blake is, without a doubt, a Daddy's boy. He lights up when Brett gets home and has the sweetest chuckles when they are playing. Makes my heart melt!
Blake loves making animal sounds and showing us where body parts are. My favorites he does are when his elephant and rooster sounds and when points to eyes, belly button and tongue. Cute and hilarious!

Blake's favorites:

Songs: "This Little Light of Mine" (and he does the cutest motions and says "No!" and blows out the light when it's time) and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"

Books: Big Red Barn, Find the Duck, and Jungle Babies. Oh, and about his independence, he wants to be the one who turns the pages! He calls a lot of his books, a "bible"

Games: Chase, patty-cake, peek-a-boo, and wrestling (i.e., sitting on) big brother

Animal: Birdies, he is always on the look-out when he hears them! And he's still obsessed with ducks!
Our little boy LOVES to help. He's great at:

Watering the yard
(in almost-his-birthday-suit and Crocs, nevertheless :-)
He also likes to get trash and go throw it away. Handy!

He is not so good at sweeping, but it keeps him preoccupied :-)
We finally got cable in September, and to say the boys love Mickey Mouse is an understatement. Blake would carry his Mickey around from room to room if it didn't get in the way.
He loves anything art-related, mainly because big bro is doing it
Is he going to be a lefty or righty? Time will tell...

We started to ween him of the pacifier several weeks back, and now he only gets it at nap and nighttime (he is a Mommy's boy, too, mainly when he is wanting to be held or comforted. Hey, I'll take it!)
This boy keeps us on our toes! Well, he does have a busy, big brother to keep up with!

He has started to do things he knows he is not supposed to do (and then look at us to see if we catch him :-) Little stinker! Thus, the time-outs have begun. And, as of now, they are pretty effective (thank goodness). Some undesirable behavior he has picked up is biting (thanks to three new bottom teeth) my shoulder or his brother (and a few friends at school :-(, hitting, and flopping around like a fish out of water when we're trying to change him. I feel like I'm roping a calf those mornings. Already a battle to get him dressed! Some days I feel like this at the end of the day myself :-(

As I have said many a times, he adores his big brother! We are in the constant referee-zone these days with these two, but they love each other so!
Words that he knows BECAUSE he has a big brother are "me/mine, noise, sword, sticker, boo-boo, be soft, and sorry." Ha!
Well, this is a long post, but I don't want to forget anything about Blake these days. This is our family scrapbook, so thanks for reading along!

We love our Blake-a-roo and thank God for our precious boy!
