He's a hard working man

I've been meaning to post this, but my husband keeps adding to the list of household chores he's checking off this summer. During his three weeks of paternity leave, he did more stuff around our house than he has done all year. Brett said that he had been scheming up this to-do list for some time. While he was putting in long hours during busy season, those things got put on the back burner. Here is all he did in a short amount of time:

  • Organized our kitchen (cabinets and pantry) and the garage (I am a confessed pack-rat, so he took full advantage of me not supervising this process :-)
  • Put in linoleum under all of our bathroom and kitchen sinks. We hate the liner/contact paper!
  • A BIG one: he took care of me and the boys while I was recovering (this consisted of helping me get up and down from sitting/lying position for about two weeks post-delivery, cooking a'many breakfasts and lunches, etc.)
  • Landscaped our entire backyard!
The ridiculous sombrero actually comes in handy for sun protection!
With the help of Jameston, of course!

  • He made this rolling work table:

  • And now, he is retiling the entire front of our house (entryway, dining room, and study):

It's not been easy having a mess in our house, but
the end result will be totally worth it!

Seriously, the man never relaxes...I wish I had his work ethic! Now, if only I could complete the to-do's on my measly list :-)

Blake Everett is two-months-old!

Guess who turned two-months-old on Monday?

Who me?

I took Blake in for his check-up on Tuesday, and here are his stats:
14 lbs., 12 ounces (97%)
26 inches (off the charts!)

We knew he was big, but didn't know he was that big! We moved him up to size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothes last week. I love finding out stats, could've done without the shots though. Broke.my. heart :-(

I joke with Brett that he may be our future linebacker :-) If this Mommy lets him play football!

Here is what Blake has been up to over the last month...

Eating: When he's awake, he wants to eat every 2 to 2 1/2 hours (here's hoping this stretches another 30 minutes or so soon). He starts daycare on Monday, where he will be getting 5-6 ounce bottles, so I think that will help him go longer between feedings. He could nap 3-4 hours during the day, so I know he can go longer! He is eating faster and burping better, so we are thankful for that :-)

Modeling a onesie his Uncle Scott wore 28 years ago!

Sleep: He will usually go 5-6 hours at night after his last feeding, which is normally between 7 and 8:00 p.m. But after that, he's up every 2-3 hours :-( We know he's of the weight where he can "sleep through," so we'll see. And his naps are not consistent. Some days he will take two long ones with one or two cat naps, and other days he FIGHTS naps. Probably because he is being toted around so much as a second child! He does nap well on his tummy if he seems restless, which also seems to alleviate his gas/reflux issues. This is a common sight in the car or while we are running around!
Developmentally: He is reaching for and grabbing objects. He will even smile at them :-) It is so fun to see all over again!

He is also kicking a ton, turning to our voices, and tracking objects

And cooing? Oh, goodness, that boy can coo!
When he sees us talking, he wants to chime in. And he squeals to talk sometimes!

He has perfected his gummy smile and will flash it repeatedly, especially for his big brother (Jameston does the cutest things to get him to smile. I have a video I need to upload)!

He actually likes baths these days. Thank goodness his screaming during bath time was short-lived! He especially likes to watch Jameston in the bath, so we often see the below bewildered face :-)

He will let just about anyone hold him, and his favorites are Aunt Lynnlee
and Papa (besides Mommy and Daddy, of course)

He is holding his head up and turning side to side while on his tummy. He is really strong, so I am guessing he will roll over soon! He will stand on his feet when you hold in up on your lap, something I don't remember JW doing. Another thing he has started to do: DROOL! Where did that come from?!
Normally, if he is not hungry or tired, he is a very relaxed baby. He still has the loudest cry when he's upset :-( He is used to being out and about during the day and does well in his car seat (thank goodness, since we have been out of town traveling three weekends in a row!). He will fall asleep on his own at night and without a paci, which is the polar opposite of how Jameston was!

Blake-isms: He rubs his eyes when tired and sucks his hand when hungry. And he's got the cutest dimple when he smiles!

Blake has brought so much joy into our lives! It's true when they say that your heart just grows bigger with love for each child. It is hard to remember life without him, even though that was just two months ago. We love you, Blake E!

Big bro/little bro comparisons

This is long overdue..no excuses, except that our house (mainly the office with our computer and the entry way AND the dining room) has been in complete disarray the last few weeks as we renovate. Anywho, the office is the first room to be completed, so here I am back on the desktop. Here are some pictures where I think our boys show some similarities (and differences).

Blake on the left, Jameston on the right---both at about one week old

Blake on the left, JW on the right---showing us their yawing power :-)

Both boys like to sleep with their hands up near their face-makes swaddling non-existent after the early days! Blake on the left and JW on the right

Apparently they both also like to throw gang signs up with their hands-ha! just had to throw these in there! JW left and Blake right

Different seasons, different one-week-old pics! Again, with their signs :-) Jameston, Blake

Both boys have liked the swing (can I get an AMEN?!) Blake left and JW right, around two-weeks-old

Again, more pictures from about a-half-month-old: JW and Blake

When Blake was born, we thought they resembled, but not as much as we do now. We knew he was bigger and had darker/more hair, those things for sure! Blake has bigger eyes, both boys have the same beautiful blues eyes (LOVE!) and noses, and Jameston has Mommy's lips while Blake seems to have Daddy's. One thing is certain, this big brother LOVES his baby brother!

Oh, and he likes to get into baby brother's stuff (he hasn't done this in the past month or so. So glad it has worn off!)

Can't wait to see how their similarities and differences pan out! Hope I can get some better comparison pictures once I get my act together :-)

Insta-Friday

Our week, documented by pictures from my phone...
We went to the zoo again, but I didn't take many pictures since Brett wasn't with me...we got there at 9:30, stayed three hours, and left when it was getting pretty hot...Jameston LOVES the zoo!

"Driving" the safari jeep!

Splashing around in the little play area in the children's petting zoo part of the zoo

Climbing like a big boy in the spider's web

We did hit up the carousel for the first time on the way out. I am thinking that won't be the last time we do this :-)

And Blake was a trooper as usual...took a two-hour nap!

JW was tuckered out as well and fell asleep on the drive home

Yes. I am that mom who bribes her child with a slushy so that he will sit still while we got an oil change...

We headed to the splash park with Emmie, her mommy, and baby brother

The big kids had a pretty good time I'd say

Jameston did for sure!

Blake has discovered his chime animals on his carseat over the past few weeks...he boxes them a lot, as I can hear them rattle and hear him sorta sigh in the backseat. Love their world of discovery!

And, to end this post , a little air guitar! Something I mentioned in the last post about Jameston's obsession with musical instruments...never a dull moment!

Okay, I realize I mainly take pics of my boys. I hope to expand my iPhone gallery and remember to snap during random times. If you want to follow me, I'm @cmwinters
